Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a significant step toward boosting infrastructure and rural development in Jharkhand by unveiling projects worth ₹660 crore. During an event in Ranchi, Modi inaugurated several key initiatives aimed at improving connectivity, fostering economic growth, and uplifting marginalized communities in the state.
One of the major highlights of the event was the foundation stone laying for the Madhupur bypass line in Deoghar district and the inauguration of the Hazaribag town coaching depot. These projects are part of a larger plan to upgrade the railway network in the region, enhancing transportation and connectivity. The Kurkura-Kanaroan railway line, which is part of the Bondamunda-Ranchi single-line section and the Rourkela-Gomoh route, also saw the completion of its doubling. The improved rail infrastructure is expected to facilitate better movement of goods and passengers, contributing to regional economic development.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, Modi took the opportunity to address housing needs in rural Jharkhand by virtually distributing sanction letters to 32,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme. PMAY-G is a central government initiative aimed at providing affordable housing for the rural poor. During the event, Modi also handed over the keys to 46,000 homes virtually, marking a significant milestone in the scheme’s progress. These homes are a part of the 1,13,400 houses sanctioned for Jharkhand under PMAY-G, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving living standards for rural communities in the state.
Modi emphasized that the government's top priority is the development of marginalized communities, including tribals, Dalits, women, and the youth. He highlighted that these initiatives would address the long-standing infrastructure gaps in Jharkhand, a state that has lagged behind in terms of development. By accelerating the pace of these projects, the government aims to bring prosperity to underserved populations and uplift the overall standard of living in the state.
The Prime Minister further underscored the economic benefits of the rail and infrastructure projects. He pointed out that these developments would not only improve connectivity but also spur tourism, industry, and other economic activities, creating job opportunities and boosting the region’s economy. The improved rail links are expected to attract more tourists to Jharkhand’s scenic and religious destinations, while also supporting local industries by improving the transportation of goods.
Modi also used the platform to announce the release of the first installment of ₹32 crore, which will go toward the construction of homes for rural beneficiaries under the PMAY-G scheme. This financial aid will assist in speeding up the construction of homes, ensuring that more people in rural Jharkhand gain access to secure housing. The Prime Minister’s efforts to virtually hand over the keys to 46,000 homes reflect the government’s focus on digitizing governance and reaching out to remote communities in an efficient manner.
While the primary focus of the event was on Jharkhand’s development, the Prime Minister also addressed the wider region by virtually flagging off six Vande Bharat trains. These trains, which will serve states like Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, represent a significant leap forward in rail connectivity across eastern and northern India. The Vande Bharat trains, known for their speed and comfort, are expected to enhance the travel experience for passengers in these states, making it easier for people to commute and do business.
Modi’s address at the event included a personal apology to the people of Tatanagar, where he was scheduled to attend another event in person. Due to adverse weather conditions, his helicopter was unable to take off from Ranchi. However, Modi remained committed to his engagements by virtually participating in the flagging-off ceremony of the Vande Bharat trains. Union Ministers such as Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Annapurna Devi, Sanjay Seth, and Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar were present at the Tatanagar station to witness the event.
The series of projects and initiatives unveiled during the event demonstrate the government’s commitment to promoting development in states like Jharkhand, where infrastructure gaps have historically hindered growth. Modi’s focus on improving rail connectivity and providing affordable housing highlights the government’s holistic approach to development, addressing both urban and rural needs.

Moreover, by prioritizing the needs of marginalized communities, Modi’s government aims to create inclusive growth that benefits everyone, particularly those who have historically been left behind. The launch of these projects in Jharkhand is part of a broader national strategy to foster economic development through infrastructure improvements, housing initiatives, and better connectivity.
As these projects take shape, they are expected to bring about transformative changes in Jharkhand, helping the state catch up with the rest of the country in terms of infrastructure and development. The positive ripple effects of these initiatives will likely be felt for years to come, benefiting not only Jharkhand but also neighbouring regions that will be connected by the new rail lines and other infrastructure improvements.
