India Boosts Defence Preparedness with Major Acquisition Approvals Worth ₹1.45 Lakh Crore
The Defence Acquisition Council, led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved 10 major proposals worth ₹1.45 lakh crore to enhance India's defence preparedness. A significant 99% of this budget is dedicated to indigenous equipment under the "Buy Indian" categories, supporting the "Make in India" initiative. The approvals include Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) for the Indian Army, Air Defence Fire Control Radars, and Forward Repair Team (Tracked) units, which will enhance battlefield capabilities. The Indian Coast Guard is also set to receive advanced assets, including the Dornier-228 aircraft and Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels and Offshore Patrol Vessels. These acquisitions are set to significantly bolster India's military and maritime strength, ensuring robust national defence.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has given the green light to ten major acquisition proposals valued at ₹1.45 lakh crore. This strategic move is aimed at significantly enhancing India’s defence capabilities and ensuring the nation’s military remains prepared for any challenge.

A noteworthy aspect of these approvals is the emphasis on indigenous production, with a substantial 99% of the budget allocated to Indian-made equipment under the Buy (Indian) and Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) categories. This initiative aligns with the government's "Make in India" policy, promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Among the most significant approvals is the acquisition of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs). Designed as a state-of-the-art main battle tank, the FRCV will provide the Indian Army with advanced mobility, enhanced all-terrain capability, multi-layered protection, and precision firepower. It also offers real-time situational awareness, making it a formidable addition to the army’s armoured fleet.

To further strengthen the Indian Army's defensive and offensive operations, the DAC has approved the procurement of Air Defence Fire Control Radars. These radars will be pivotal in detecting and tracking aerial threats, providing critical firing solutions during combat situations. Additionally, a proposal to acquire Forward Repair Team (Tracked) units was also sanctioned. These units, developed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, are designed to perform on-site repairs during mechanized operations, enhancing the operational capabilities of both Mechanised Infantry Battalions and Armoured Regiments.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is also set to receive a significant boost with three new proposals that have been approved to expand its maritime capabilities. The procurement includes the advanced Dornier-228 aircraft, which will strengthen aerial surveillance and reconnaissance operations. Next-Generation Fast Patrol Vessels (NGFPVs) and Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) have also been approved, equipped with the latest technology to operate effectively in rough sea conditions. These vessels will enhance the ICG’s ability to patrol maritime zones, conduct search and rescue missions, and manage disaster relief operations with greater efficiency.

This comprehensive set of approvals represents a significant step forward in modernizing India’s armed forces and supporting its strategic objectives in the region. By focusing on indigenously designed and manufactured equipment, the Ministry of Defence reinforces its commitment to bolstering the nation's defence capabilities while promoting domestic defence production.
