During his discussions with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the leaders focused on trade, defence, and initiating direct flights between India and Brunei, marking a new chapter in their strategic relationship.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Brunei marked a historic milestone in India-Brunei relations, as both nations elevated their bilateral ties to an 'Enhanced Partnership.' A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to commence direct flights between Bandar Seri Begawan and Chennai, which will significantly enhance connectivity, boost trade, and promote tourism between India and Brunei. They explored opportunities for long-term collaboration in the energy sector, with a focus on LNG, and agreed to enhance cooperation in space-related activities, including satellite development and remote sensing.

The joint statement issued after the meeting emphasized the commitment of both nations to expand their partnership in defence, with a focus on training and capacity-building initiatives. He stressed that India advocates for development-oriented growth ('vikasvaad') and firmly opposes expansionism ('vistarvaad'), calling for adherence to international laws such as UNCLOS.

The two leaders also addressed the global threat of terrorism, condemning all forms of terrorism and agreeing to collaborate more closely to combat it. They emphasized the importance of bringing terrorists to justice through enhanced cooperation at international and multilateral forums.
