The YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India has fallen victim to a hacking incident, now displaying videos that promote XRP, a cryptocurrency created by Ripple Labs. The channel, primarily used for livestreaming significant court hearings and public interest matters, has seen its content replaced with misleading cryptocurrency promotions.
The hackers altered the channel's handle to @ripple.live24 and incorporated playlists from Ripple’s official YouTube channel, attempting to lend legitimacy to the fraudulent page. Earlier hearing videos have been made private, and the channel is currently showcasing a blank video titled "Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC's $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION."
This breach highlights the ongoing challenge of cybersecurity in the digital age, where scammers increasingly target high-profile channels to spread misinformation and promote fraudulent schemes. Notably, Ripple itself has a history of legal disputes with YouTube, having sued the platform in 2020 for not adequately addressing impersonation scams related to its CEO, Brad Garlinghouse.

As this incident unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting online platforms from malicious activities. The Supreme Court's channel plays a critical role in promoting transparency and access to justice, and such breaches can undermine public trust in these essential services.
